Crew 255 is a teen-led Scouting organization dedicated to Adventure, Leadership, and Service.
Monthly weekend and summer multi-day high adventure backpacking, canoeing, climbing, and wilderness survival trips are at the core of our annual activity plan. Summer camp and organized training lead to the advanced Red Cross certification in Wilderness Rescue and First Aid. Crew 255 youth and adult leaders have a deep background in outdoor high adventure activities. Many of the adult advisers have decades of experience with Boy Scouts of America.
The Crew is led by its members, and all activity planning and organizational issues are teen run. The Crew supports leadership development with formal training in project management, mentoring, time management and goal setting. Adult advisers are always there for the Scouts on the sideline - but as coaches, not players.
The Crew gives back to the community through service. Recent examples include a canned food drive, raking leaves and clearing snow for elderly neighbours with Chevy Chase at Home, and improving water management at Congressional Cemetery.
The Crew is non-denominational and welcomes all as members. We are grateful for the generosity of our charter organization, the Chevy Chase United Methodist Church.
Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 13 and have completed the eighth grade, or age 14 through 20 years of age.
Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.
Venturing is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth, adult leaders, and organizations in their communities. Local community organizations establish a Venturing crew by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of exciting and meaningful activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, develop leadership skills, and become good citizens.
On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Arguably one of the best dayhikes on the Eastern coast, with plenty of non-technical but challenging boulder scrambling.
